rustic urban wedding

I could say a lot about the narrative of this day and how beautiful the details were and all of that stuff we wedding professionals are supposed to talk about. But, instead, I’m going to tell the story within the story. I knew I was going to shoot the wedding of a very lovely couple who were so excited about each other, but what I didn’t know was that the father of the bride had been battling pancreatic cancer and might not make it to the wedding day. His prognosis was so bleak that he had actually video recorded his speech in the likely speech he would no longer be around to say it in person. At the 11th hour, he made a recovery. He made it to the wedding and was able to see his youngest marry the love of his life. Throughout the day there were so many moments where I saw him sharing a meaningful stare with various members of his family. The bride told me after I delivered the gallery how lucky they were to have him there and how special it is that they had the opportunity to share that with him and have these photos. It’s moments like these that remind me that this job isn’t just about flowers and dresses and swoon worthy moments between new couples. It’s about a complex web of interconnected lives, coming together in this one rare moment to share something that might never be able to happen again. It was an honor to photograph this special family, and it reminded me why I do this.
